DEPARTMENT COMMENDATION AWARD RIBBON

The Department Commendation Award Ribbon is an authorized ribbon award for the Chicago Police Department. Ribbon includes metal frame. Item does NOT include pin clutches with butterfly clasps, ribbon rack or any appurtenances (stars / oak leaves). Those items are sold separately.

Award Description: Granted to Sworn or Civilian Department Members for an outstanding act or achievement that brings great credit to the Department and involves performance above and beyond that required by the member’s basic assignment.

Presentation: This award is presented to Sworn Department Members in the form of a ribbon bar and certificate. Civilian Department Members are presented this award in the form of a Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy (CAPS) lapel pin and certificate. Although this award was established on April 28, 1962 it was only presented in the form of a certificate. The corresponding ribbon bar wasn’t established until May 18, 1979.
